PhD in Art Practice – Research Proposal
TRANSFORMATIVE COLOUR–FORM METHODOLOGY
Lived Experience, Making as a Way of Knowing, and Aesthetic Transformation in Artistic Research
How can lived experience generate new knowledge through colour, form, space, and making?
My research investigates how lived experience is transformed through artistic practice into visual, material, and embodied knowledge. Working with colour, geometry, form, and space, I examine how making can transform perception — not simply represent it.
The studio is a site of experimentation, observation, and questioning, where making is a way of thinking — a process through which experience can be encountered, reconfigured, and understood differently. Through iterative processes of making, I investigate how colour, form, and material become active agents of transformation, asking what it means to know through making, and what making makes possible.
This is not research about art. It is research through art — grounded in the conviction that making is one of the most profound ways of knowing the world.

Central Proposition
The artwork is not only the outcome of the research. It is also a site of inquiry, where ideas are tested, developed, and new knowledge can emerge.

SHORT RESEARCH INTRODUCTION
The proposed doctoral research investigates how lived experience can be transformed through artistic practice into visual, spatial, and material forms of knowledge.
The research develops through sustained experimentation with colour, geometry, material, three-dimensional form, and space, examining how processes of making can transform perception, experience, and understanding.
Transformative Colour–Form Methodology (TCFM) is proposed as an evolving methodological framework through which these relationships can be explored, documented, reflected upon, and progressively refined through practice.
